How did the slang term ''broad''first apply to women?
Just curious to see how the word evolved to describe a woman.

I do declare... Sunshine might just have the correct answer in the sight of her rear view mirror there...
However, let me add to what's been offered already....
"broad" is usually an objectionable and offensive slang expression to mean "woman" originating to around 1911...
it may be suggestive of broad hips, but it also may trace to an old American English word: "abroadwife", for a woman away from her husband, who was often a slave.
Earliest use suggests immorality or a coarse, low-class woman.
FACTOID: Because of this negative association, and the rise of women in athletics, the track and field "broad jump" was changed to the "long jump" around 1967.
